On October 9, the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative, PCNI, Tijjani M Tumsah received the Executive Governor of Borno State, HE Gov. Kashim Shettima. The Governor’s visit was in continuation of the strategic alliance between the Federal and State governments in tackling the humanitarian crisis in the North East. Recently, PCNI coordinated a concerted response by federal and state authorities as well as other health and humanitarian partners to outbreaks of Hepatitis E and Cholera in Borno which have now been brought under control with mortality rates mitigated.
Mr. Tumsah, reiterated the commitment of the PCNI in conjunction with other MDAs and donors and to refurbish all PHCs, Secondary and Tertiary healthcare facilities not only in Borno State but the entire North-East region in other to improve healthcare delivery. Gov. Shettima called for the standardization of secondary healthcare institutions in the State to make health care more accessible in the post-insurgency phase. He emphasized the need for the total refurbishment and equipment of the Bama General Hospital and as its upgrade to a standard healthcare facility to cater to the inhabitants of Bama town and outlying communities.
Also present at the meeting were members of the National Assembly; Hon. Mamman Nur Sheriff, Member representing Bama, Ngala & Kala Balge at the House of Representatives and Senator Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai, Senator representing Borno Central amongst others.
