On the 28th of February, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu rallied international oil companies operating in Nigeria to the cause of rehabilitating the North East. At a meeting chaired and hosted by Dr Kachikwu at the NNPC Towers, the international oil companies were invited to assess the situation in the region and to commit resources towards the reconstruction efforts already underway. The PCNI delegation led by the Vice Chair, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah presented the facts and figures of the humanitarian situation in the North East, highlighting areas of critical need and ongoing intervention programmes as stipulated in the Buhari Plan – the comprehensive roadmap for the rehabilitation and renewal of the region. In response, the Minister announced the formation of a committee to come up with modalities for oil companies to mobilize resources in aid of the PCNI’s mandate to drive socioeconomic recovery and rebuilding in the North East. The committee was given a month to complete its assignment.
